How To Get Your Body Ready For Your Modern Glamour Boudoir Portrait Session

5 WAYS TO GET YOUR BODY READY FOR A BOUDOIR SESSION

Modern Muse is an experience for you to truly indulge in. ?Lisette is one of my favorite ladies, and stylists of all time helped create this guide that will get your ready for your Modern Muse shoot. ?Here is how to get your body ready for your boudoir session by playing up the indulgence sensual skin, polished hand and feet, a beautiful smile and beautiful tresses.

You can let the basic idea of texture and indulgence guide your pre-portrait preparations. ??The smooth velvet of the your skin! Maximize the volume and shine of the hair! ?The impossible slickness of the lips! The soft sheen to your nails!

Keep the idea of texture in mind as you prepare for your Modern Muse session. ?Start by amplifying what you’ve already got. Bonus? It doesn’t take much more than a few simple and inexpensive products to get there.

GETTING YOUR SKIN READY

Exfoliate. ?Moisturize. Repeat.

Make sure to exfoliate and moisturize your body in the weeks leading up to your shoot. ?Not only will you have beautiful soft supple skin, but you will be radiating with the self-love you’ve lavished on your largest and most visible asset. ?

Create a sugar scrub for yourself all Pinterest style: a couple cups of sugar and a third of a cup of coconut oil rubbed all over will make every inch of your body excruciatingly soft. ?

After you wash it off, cover your body in coconut oil (you can buy jars of organic coconut oil at the grocery in the cooking oil section– it looks white in the jar but as soon as it connects with the heat of your skin it turns to sheer liquid) and luxuriate. ?Your skin will glow for days.

Then: Moisturize all day. ?Moisturize your lips, your face, your neck, your d?collet? ?your knees, your heels, your booty.

Use this daily moisturizing check-in and self love as a meditative act to remember what you love about your body.

Oh, and remember to use sunscreen!

MAXIMIZE THE VOLUME AND SHINE OF YOUR HAIR

Hair is sexy at any length!

Whether you keep it touchable-tousled or carefully coiffed into a vintage pinup style, showering some love on your hair before your boudoir or modern glamour portrait session will go a long way to creating a beautiful frame for your beautiful face.

Start by treating yourself to a trim and, if needed, refresh your color a week prior to your shoot. ?

Deep condition the day before to give you a healthy light catching sheen (Lisette uses her favorite coconut oil as a leave in conditioner, wrapping her hair in a scarf overnight then washing in the morning). ?

A light spritz of shine spray on the day of your shoot will further catch the light. ?Want soft earthy and tousled textures? Try adding a little salt spray.

This is not a time to go for a dramatically new color or cut. ?If you want to play with different looks and styles, consider a hairpiece or a wig for a few images. ???

TOUCHABLE HANDS AND FEET

Our hands and our fingertips draw attention to your hair, your face, your neck – wherever you place them. They are pointing to what’s important. ?Which means they will get plenty of exposure in your Modern Glamour portrait. So get those hands and fingertips ready with some love.

A professional manicure and pedicure is always a relaxing treat. ??No time for a pro manicure? Do it yourself! Exfoliate and moisturize your hands, feet and nail beds. ?Trim and file your nails. Use some peroxide to re-whiten your fingernail tips by soaking them in there for a couple minutes, and then coconut oil to soften then push back the cuticle, and a simple clear coat of polish and you’ll look fresh and touchable from your fingertips right down to your toes.

If you want nail color, choose something classic or neutral that will work with multiple looks.

FLASHING A SMILE

Don’t forget your smile!

Aside from confidence, it’s one of the best things you can wear at your Modern Glamour portrait session. ?Smiles are beautiful and laughter is sexy.

Try over the counter white strips if you want an extra pop of white. ?Or Lisette suggests a week of brushing with a combo of toothpaste and baking soda then swishing (but not swallowing) a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and mouthwash will have your teeth shimmering white for the camera.

Remember to exfoliate and moisturize your lips too! ?If you can slough off the dead skin and keep your lips moisturized, whatever color you apply will look and feel incredible.

Not into much color? ?No problem. With soft moisturized lips, all you need is a little gloss. ?Gloss will catch the light and your lips will sparkle on camera.

You can make your own lip scrub at home with brown sugar and honey, olive oil or – you guessed it – coconut oil. ?Gently use the scrub to exfoliate your lips.

WAXING. THREADING. PLUCKING.

Everyone has their own preference for hair removal. ??If you wax, do it around four days prior to your boudoir session to allow your skin a chance to calm down and minimize redness.

Be careful with your skin. ?Sensitive skin can be easily irritated. ?Your skin may normally look great the day after a good waxing? but it only takes that one time to just not heal the way it normally does. ?Please do not get a wax more than 2-3 days before your session. Give your body time to heal just in case the unthinkable happens.

Please don’t try a new method before your photo shoot. ?Give yourself a practice run in advance and be sure to moisturize and coddle your skin afterward!

And if you are not into hair removal? ?Then remember to treat the hair on your body like the hair on your head. ?Condition and trim everything.

Modern Muse is celebration of you. ?You can be bold, modest, sensual, funny, empowered, limitless, joyful, and always you. ?You don?t need to diet or work out. You need to fully inhabit your body with love. These five steps will help you get there. ?
