HOW TO PREPARE FOR A MALE BOUDOIR SHOOT
Forging Your Inner Muse
Forget push-ups and protein shakes – your male boudoir session starts with the big question – who do you want to see in these photographs? Because at Modern Muse, male boudoir isn’t just about your body; it’s about witnessing and documenting you. When you choose to drop your mask, and shed your armor and truly be seen is when you can rewrite your narrative, and where you reclaim your strength and your sensuality. It’s a journey of self-discovery and finding the right studio is everything.
So don’t this isn’t just about posing. You’re a Muse. Breathe. Burn.
Most, but not all, of our male clients opt out of the hair and makeup styling that is included in our signature sessions. If you’re curious about it – know that camera ready makeup can polish up razor burn, breakouts, sun damage, etc and can look like you aren’t wearing any makeup at all.
Regardless of wearing makeup at your session – be intentional about your skin in the weeks leading up to your portrait session. Wear sunscreen, and moisturize your face and body. Now is a good a time as any to start a nightly ritual now!
Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and get enough sleep – this all helps your skin look great.
Bodies have hair. You have preferences for it. We are here for how you want to present. If you choose to remove hair by waxing, please do it a few days before your session to minimize redness. If you choose to shave, reduce irritation by shaving at the end of your shower in the direction that your hair grows, use a moisturizing shaving cream and apply a soothing aftershave.
Your crowning glory? Schedule a haircut about a week in advance, letting it settle in.
HANDS & FEET
This is probably as good a time as any to get that mani/pedi. It might be a little bit extra, but it feels great and you can ask for a naked manicure or simply no polish.
This is the moment to preen and prep. And above all, own your story. These little things can help your confidence climb, so you can step into the studio ready.
There is vulnerability in sharing your authentic self through body language and emotive expressions in a male boudoir portrait session – this is about connecting with yourself (and your partners) on a new level. You, as a unique individual, are part of this – All our male boudoir sessions include a pre-shoot conversation to define your vision, getting on the same page as to your desired mood, emotions you want to see and feel: the whole vibe and aesthetic for the shoot.
